General Surgery

General surgery is the surgical specialty that focuses on the evaluation and treatment of injuries and diseases using operative procedures. General surgeons typically treat abdominal conditions, such as appendicitis, gall bladder disorders, hernias and stomach and intestinal issues. They also focus on diseases of the breasts, liver, pancreas, salivary and thyroid glands and some arteries and veins.

Procedures performed include:

  • Major abdominal cancer surgeries
  • Laparoscopic and open gallbladder, hernia and bowel surgeries
  • Liver and pancreas surgeries
  • Hepatobiliary pancreatic surgery
  • Upper and lower GI endoscopies, including ERCP
  • Tracheostomy placement and removal and PEG tube placement
  • Minor tumor excision
  • Foreign body removal
  • Colorectal surgeries
  • Vascular surgeries
